biography:
Between 1978-1985, Professor Meng studied at Zhengzhou Institute of Surveying and Mapping in China, where she received her Bachelor and Master degree in Cartography. From 1985-1988 she worked as teching assistant at the same institute.
From 1988-1994 she stayed at University of Hannover (Germany), where she received her PhD for a thesis on Recognition of Map Texts with an Expert System.
From 1994-1996 she worked as Associate Professor at the University of Gaevle (Sweden) and from 1996-1998 she worked as GIS consultant at SWECO Co. (Sweden). In 1998 she received the Professorship Qualification in Geomatics from the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology with a thesis on Automatic Generalization of Geodata.
Since 1998 she has been head of the department of Cartography at the TUM's Institute of Photogrammetry and Cartography and is currently the TUM's Vice President.
