Current ESPACE Student Sarah Abelen interns at the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany!
Sarah Abelen decided to participate in the ESPACE program due to her special interest in remote sensing. With a background in Environmental and Resource Management from her Bachelor's studies, she aims to specialize in the application of space born images in the fields of environmental monitoring and planning. During the summer break of 2008, Sarah got the opportunity to do an internship at the "German Research Centre for Geosciences" in Potsdam. The Remote Sensing department specializes in Hyperspectral Images. One focus of research is the analysis of desertification and land degradation, which was also the field that Sarah was working on. In addition to the preparation of erosion maps for an investigation area in Spain, she took part in a field study (see picture).
The TUM offers serveral opportunities to become active beyond one's studies. One student initiative is the "TUMgoesWorldMUN" Project. "WorldMUN" is a yearly simulation of the United Nations Conference which is organized by Harvard University. Sarah will be among the TUM's delegation for the conference in Den Haag in 2009.
